Company & Background

Proteus Labs is a Lima-based company that developed an innovative water treatment solution with patented bacteria incubation systems which was able to solve water treatment problems in the market with an average 80% cost savings. They developed the technology and started developing the products and services around them, successfully piloting them with large corporate and SME clients in Perú and Chile.

Challenges & Needs

The Proteus Labs team had a very strong technical background, but lacked strategic commercial skills and experience, especially when trying to define a minimum viable commercial setup that could prove commercial assumptions on the markets (like service proposition, pricing and business model, CAC, lead times, ecc) and also to understand in which vertical or industry to focus and operate, since water treatment could be applied to so many different industries. Last, they were also trying to pin down what the total TAM potential in the region could be.

Solutions & Impact

We partnered up and provided a Fractional CRO for 12+ months, firstly developing the business case and operational setup and processes for each vertical (with a “minimum viable test” mindset), secondly defining the value proposition, product packaging, and pricing, lastly engineering the growth systems for them to validate which industry would be the strongest in terms of sales and deal pipeline development and which channels and tactics were working with the strongest metrics (leaving them as benchmarks and SOPs for the growth team in the future). We validated the industries and created a first lead pipeline worth USD 1M+, which enabled them to build a case to raise venture funding.
